Fresh details have emerged on how gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted the wife of Hakeem Odumosu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State.
The Witness gathered that the four hooded heavily armed men intercepted the wife of Odumosu as she was about to enter her compound at about 9:55pm on Thursday.
Her Lexus SUV was forcibly stopped, and she was dragged out before being whisked away through a swampy area to an unknown location.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command said the State Police Command reacted swiftly to the abduction by deploying operatives to secure her release. She added that Mrs Odumosu was taken through swampy areas to an unknown location.
According to her, “Approximately 9:55 pm, information was received regarding the kidnapping of Mrs Odumosu, a female resident of Aminu Street, Orange Estate, Arepo, Ogun State. Reports indicate that she was about to enter her home when four masked men attacked her, dragged her from her Lexus jeep and took her through the swampy areas to an unknown location. The Divisional Police Officer has led a team of Police officers to the scene, where they are currently searching the swampy bush area. The Divisional Police Officer has also contacted Baale Warewa and Baale Maaba, to deploy local security forces to the riverine area.
Odutola added that “the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo has been briefed and all covert operations have been deployed to assist with digital intelligence to ensure she is rescued unhurt”.
Meanwhile, the family of the ex-AIG has yet to speak on the kidnap of the wife of the top retired police officer.
The retired AIG Hakeem Odumosu served in Lagos state as Commissioner of Police. He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990 as cadet ASP and rose through the ranks.
He started his policing career as Operations Officer in Isokoko, Ketu and Satellite Divisions as well as Area D Command, Mushin, Lagos. He was the chairman, Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences, Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja. He equally served as the Officer in Charge, Pensions Office in Edo and Ogun states. He was in charge of Research and Planning Department, Kaduna State Command.
Odumosu was one time Commander, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Command and Area Commander, Akwanga, Nasarawa State. He was Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Western Ports Authority Command, Lagos and Area Commander, Agodi Area Command, Oyo State.
