Five individuals died instantly while four others were critically injured on Monday night when a truck crushed a car in Okene, Kogi State.
The accident occurred at about 7:30pm, and was as a result of the truck losing control and ramming into the car, killing four people on the spot and injuring four others.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the accident occurred at Oro junction in Okene town at about 7:30pm on Monday.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of FRSC, Stephen Dawulung, in response to an inquiry by Leadership, said: “Sorry I just got to see your message now. I have taken some days off but I can tell you that a crash actually occurred about 7:30pm at Oro junction, Okene where a truck had failed brake and rammed into a passenger car from the rear, resulting in the death of four persons (3 males 1 female) with four others injured.”
“The corpses were taken to Okengwe General Hospital Mortuary while the injured were taken by their respective families.”
While sympathising with victims and their families, Dawulung advised fleet operators to have viable maintenance policies which should be adhered to strictly as means of ensuring routine maintenance and vehicle roadworthiness before putting such vehicles on the road.
