The All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate in the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Lanre A. Sanusi says he was not arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Report had emerged that Sanusi was grilled by the anti-graft agency following a petition against him by a logistics company, 4runner Limited.
He was also said to have allegedly diverted COVID-19 materials, hand sanitisers and face masks worth millions of dollars from Dallas City Government Hospital in the United States with the aid of two of his friends who were truck drivers and in charge of the materials.
But responding in a letter sent by his lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, the politician said he wasn’t arrested by the EFCC.
He also denied diverting COVID-19 materials meant for Dallas City Government Hospital in the United States as alleged in the petition.
“Contrary to what you published, my client was at no time arrested by the EFCC or any other law enforcement agency, whether in Nigeria or abroad, and whether on complaint alleged in your publication or any other,” he said.
“Given the season we are in, you should expect that your hugely popular online news medium (like other widely-read news publications) will be targeted for use by politicians, especially of the desperate and unscrupulous class, which in bidding to undo their opponents.
“My client continues to follow and wish otherwise well-intentioned publication well.”
