A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Maitama, has on Friday, ordered the remand of Ahmed Idris, the former Accountant-General of the Federation, in prison custody. Idris is being alleged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to have engaged in the illegal diversion of public funds worth about N109.4 billion.
Justice A.O. Adeyemi Ajayi, the presiding judge gave the remand order after the ex-AGF, had been arraigned on a 14-count charge of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and money laundering. He held that the order was for him to be held in prison till Wednesday next week when his bail application would be heard.
Idris and his co-defendants had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them
Other defendants in the matter are: Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Kudu Usman and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.
