JUST IN: Factional Labour party presidential candidate withdraws from race

Jude Ezenwafor, factional presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 general election, has withdrawn from the race after backlash.

Ezenwafor, had on Wednesday, emerged factional candidate of the party, produced by a faction that is contesting the legitimacy of the party leadership that produced Mr. Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor, as presidential candidate.

His emergence led to widespread condemnation, as many accused him of trying to undermine Mr. Obi, who appointed him as an aide when he was governor.

Amid the controversy, Ezenwafor opted to pull out of the race.

“I hereby withdraw from the forthcoming Presidential Election in 2023,” he wrote in his withdrawal letter addressed to the party’s factional leadership on Thursday.

“After consulting my supporters Nationwide, I decided to withdraw for personal reasons.

“I regret any inconvenience my withdrawal might cost our great Party.

“I thank the leadership of our great Party for giving me the opportunity to serve Nigeria.”
