Two hotel workers have died in a hotel facility (names withheld) in Calabar Municipality local government area of Cross River State.
The lifeless bodies of the workers were discovered in a room on Saturday
The deceased are 18 -year-old Joseph Enagu Onya from lkom LGA in and Daniel Asuatang Mathew from Akwa Ibom State.
The duo who had been working in the hotel for nine months, were said to have been found with foams on their mouths.
A source who spoke to Leadership on condition of anonymity stated that the duo cooked on Saturday, adding that the next morning their bodies were discovered.
According to the source, the only thing that could have caused the deceased death would have been generator fumes if there was no electricity supply, adding that none of the generating plants was turned on.
A family source blamed the management of the hotel for failing to rush the deceased to hospital for medical attention.
The source stated, “After they discovered that they were dead, why didn’t they immediately inform the police.
“Whatever the hotel is trying to hide will be brought to limelight as we are ready to go the whole nine yards to know what happened to our son. There is no amount of money they can use to cover this up,” the source added.
The Cross River State police public relations officer, SP Irene Ugbo who confirmed the incident said that it was an unfortunate development.
Ugbo assured that the police would do everything to get to the bottom of the matter.
“Preliminary investigation has been carried out , samples have also been taken , the commissioner of police have also ordered that the case be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department , CID, for further investigation, their remains would be taken for post mortem, we will get to the root.
“We are leaving no stone unturned in this matter, we are also have the manager of the hotel in custody and we have sealed off the facility as we speak,” he said.
