‘Speaker’ of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Frank Okiye, has threatened to reconvene the House following the appointment of a new commissioner, without recourse to the Legislature, THE WITNESS reports
A statement issued on Thursday by the secretary to the state government, Osarodion Ogie, had instructed the new appointee, Stewart Efe, to resume immediately without subjecting himself to the house screening.
THE WITNESS gathered that members of the house are not happy with the development because it is the constitutional right of the house to screen every commissioner designate before the governor can officially appoint such as serving commissioner.
According to our findings, the governor needs that vacuum to be filled immediately in view of the forthcoming party’s primary in the state because as a commissioner, he is an automatic delegate and a leader of the party at local government level.
The governor, the source said, does not want to leave any stone unturned because of the crucial period and he needs more hands for the primary.
It would be recalled that the former commissioner for information, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu resigned earlier today 4th June 2020 and Mr Stewart Efe was appointed immediately to take over the vacant position.
