Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom State and presidential hopeful, has promised to revamp Nigeria’s economy if elected president in 2023.
The governor made the promise when the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) led by Olumide Akpata, its president, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Uyo.
He explained that Nigeria needed a leader with ideas on economic policies that would stimulate and drive the economy, while appealing to the lawyers to support the People’s Democratic Party in its quest to regain power in 2023.
“If all the lawyers can rise up to support the PDP, you can be hopeful of seeing a better Nigeria. Some of us did not enter the race for self-aggrandizement, but we are challenged,” he said.
“In developed nations no one campaigns with promises that they will build bridges or roads, but what policies do you have that will stimulate the economy. Like now we need to rescue, build and reconstruct, so it is going to be a major task.
“We are getting to a level where creativity and ideas can take us out of where we are. There must be a total and absolute paradigm shift in subsectors and sectors and there must be something deliberately done to stimulate and encourage the private sector to drive this economy”
Speaking, the NBA president, Olumide Akpata, applauded the governor for his outstanding performance in the development of the state and for the support of his administration to NBA branches in Akwa Ibom.
He explained that he was in the State to bridge the gap between members of executives of the NBA branches.
