Hundreds of protesters on Friday, stormed the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja to demand that Goodluck Jonathan be chosen as its consensus presidential candidate.
Jonathan, Nigeria’s former president who handed over to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, continues to be linked with possible power bid under the ruling party in 2023.
A Fulani group had purchased the party’s N100 million presidential nomination forms for him.
Although he failed to turn up for the party’s screening of presidential aspirants, his supporters are still insisting on him running.
On Friday, they protested to the party’s headquarters in Abuja asking that he be adopted as consensus candidate ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Monday.
