Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has said he will soon reveal his choice of presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
The governor spoke on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Rukpokwu-Igwuruta link road in Obio-Akpor LGA of Rivers.
He told his audience to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the elective positions in the 2023 elections.
On his choice for president, Wike said it will be made known in due course.
“Will you vote for our governor? Will you vote for our senatorial candidate? Will you vote for the house of representatives candidates? Will you vote house of assembly candidate?” Wike asked as the crowd responded — “yes”.
“Then the other one (president), I will come and tell you where you will vote. All I will tell you is don’t worry, calm down. Those that I mentioned, make sure you vote them,” he said.
“Very soon, we will meet at our houses and take a decision on where we are going.
“You will work for a party that has come to your aid, a party that has brought dividends of democracy.”
“At the state level this party is doing very well and you must continue with us.”
The governor added that there is no political party that can win the presidential election in the state without his support.
The opposition party is engulfed in a crisis that has caused division among members.
Five governors of the PDP led by Wike have been at the forefront of calls for Iyorchia Ayu to step down as national chairman of the PDP, on the grounds that the presidential candidate and chairman cannot be from the same region.
But Ayu has stayed put, prompting the governors to boycott the party’s presidential campaigns.
In recent weeks, Wike has been inviting presidential candidates of other political parties to inaugurate projects in the state, promising to give them “logistics support” for their campaigns.
