2019: Lagos women endorse Ambode for 2nd term

Representatives of women across the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State, yesterday at a rally in Ikeja, endorsed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for a second term in office. Among the women were Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye and All Progressives Congress, Women, South-West Leader, Mrs. Kemi Nelson. Akinwunmi Ambode Addressing the gathering, Mrs Kemi Nelson, Chief Convener of the event, said the rally was to evaluate Governor Ambode’s agenda for development in the state since May 2015. “Governor Ambode has been doing well for us in all spheres of life by giving us a voice in government. On the domestic front, he has been supportive, and on the economic front, he has through his economic policies, enlarged the economy of the state. “Ambode has also engaged more women in the highest policy organ of the state government. This is why we are gathered here to take a stand on behalf of our mothers, sisters and daughters as we approach another election year and to declare our support for his re-election, so that he can continue to make our state an enviable state,” The S.S.A to President on SDGs, Orelope-Adefulire, urged the party leaders to allocate more political positions to women, saying. “Our men in political positions have been outstanding, they stand very tall among men of extra giant strides. But we beg for more slots, appointment and positions for our women, because they have a lot to contribute to the development of the society.” Lagos Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oladunjoye, who is also the chairman, Lagos rally, said there was no vacancy in Lagos State in next year’s general election due to hundreds of infrastructures built by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode within a space of two years in administration. According to her: “Governor Ambode’s total dedication to duty, his enormous development projects and his desire to make the state a better place to live, is outstanding. There is no vacancy in Lagos State, come 2019. Women have benefitted immensely from his programmes and policies.”
