Armed bandits have killed 10 security personnel in an ambush in Zamfara State.
Six members of the Community Protection Guards (CPG) and four vigilantes, known as ‘Yan Sakai’, were confirmed dead in the attack in Bagega Forest, Anka Local Government Area.
The ambush took place Saturday night after a joint military operation involving the Zamfara State CPG and local vigilantes raided terrorist hideouts in Sukai Forest.
Three others, including two CPG members and one vigilante, are reported missing, while several more sustained injuries.
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the incident on his Facebook page, stating that the operation led to the death of several bandits and the recovery of a large cache of weapons.
The governor also ordered the deployment of additional troops to the affected areas and directed emergency assistance for the injured and the families of the deceased.
A funeral prayer for the slain security guards was held in Anka on Sunday. Governor Lawal pledged continued support for efforts to combat banditry in the region.
Of the 10 security personnel killed, seven were from Anka Local Government Area, while three were from Talata Mafara.
