A Toronto, Canada based international business man and politician, Mr. Gbenga Oni has thrown his weight behind Senator Olamilekan Adeola Solomon (Yayi) to succeed governor Ibikunle Amosun  as the next governor of Ogun State in 2019.
Gbeng Oni, who is popularly called ‘Mantee’ by friends and admirers, disclosed that his decision to align with the aspiration of Yayi is borne out of the desire to install a credible and resourceful  individual as the governor of Ogun State after the expiration of the second term of the incumbent.
“I have the conviction that Senator Adeola, a confirmed indigene of Ogun State will deploy all his energy and intellectual resources to transform Ogun State and bring the desired development we all want for our state. I am convinced that Yayi is being driven by the passion to serve Ogun people and no amount of persecution from any quarters can stop him. Yayi is a political colossus in Nigeria already and he can not be cowed into submission.” The businessman said.
Mr Oni futher stated that he is already mobilizing thousands of Ogun State indigenes in America and Europe to give their support to the aspiration of Senator Adeola come 2019.
“I can tell you that in Canada here, the words on the lips of Ogun indigenes is ‘Yayi for governor’. We are sensitizing our people here. But interestingly, some Nigerians here in Canada who are not indigenes of our state have joined us to support Yayi, both morally and financially.
“Apart from all these, some of us here in Toronto have engaged in massive mobilization drive across Europe and America for Senator Adeola. We believe in him and have decided to stand with him till he wins the election.” Oni declared.
Meanwhile, the international businessman revealed that he had neither met nor spoken with Senator Adeola since he decided to mobilize for his 2019 aspiration.
“I don’t need to meet or speak with him. I have been following his activities and really admire his zeal and gusto with which he is going about his aspiration. We in the diaspora have taken a decision to stand with him because of our love for Ogun State”. The Ogun State born businessman asserted.

2019: Avoid divisive utterances – Gov Ahmed

Published

on

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has urged politicians to desist from unguarded and misleading comments capable of creating discord and heating up the polity.

Responding to recent social media posts regarding a message by People’s Democratic Party(PDP) elders in Ifelodun Local Government area inviting members to a political meeting, Governor Ahmed described the issue as a party affair which should not be given any negative connotation. While condemning the post and commentaries that followed, he said such unguarded utterances are not only misleading but also have the capacity to cause divisions that will be difficult to heal in the Kwara South Senatorial district if allowed to fester.

Alhaji Ahmed said while the party as presently constituted in Ifelodun Local Government and indeed Kwara South is known for its inclusiveness and consensus building, the meeting is an internal party affair and should not be given any negative undertone that can undermine the harmony, peace and cohesion of Kwara South Senatorial District and indeed the state at large.

Governor Ahmed urged all PDP aspirants in the state to abide by the party structure’s tradition of unity, peaceful conduct, inclusiveness and respect for the leadership in exercising their right to aspire to elective posts.

Why Toke Benson is fighting James Faleke

Published

on

Mrs. Toke Benson Awoyinka, a House of Reps aspirant, Ikeja Consistency, Lagos State is using every possible means to ensure that she takes over the constituency from Hon. James Faleke amidst several of her allegations against him.

Sources told us that her major grouse was that Faleke contested election in Kogi State and shouldn’t have returned to Lagos to recontest for the seat as House of Reps member representing Ikeja Constituency, Lagos. But she did not tell Lagosians if Faleke resigned his position at the national Assembly while contesting the election in Kogi State.

They added that Toke Bensonalso failed to realize that Hon. James Faleke would have been the governor of Kogi State today if not for political game played against the national leader, Ahmed Tinubu? How do you imagine INEC declaring an election inconclusive when Audu/Faleke were leading the PDP seating government in Kogi – State with about 41,000 votes, while the areas declared inconclusive had just 19,000 votes, but for politics against Tinubu by APC national body, a party Tinubu worked hard for, why would the party substitute the late Abubakar Audufor Yahaya Bello, who was just a runners up in the governorship election primaries?

Those in the know said that Mrs Toke Benson ignorant of the fact that Faleke changed the tide of that election in Kogi. That in the two previous elections that Abubakar had contested in Kogi State he was unable to win Kogi West District. Falekemade it possible within 3months of joining the race, they won 6 of 7 LGAs in Kogi West District. Barr. Toke Benson has benefitted a lot from Faleke even though she never acknowledged it.

We gathered that Hon. James Faleke has brought a lot of developmental stride to Ikeja since he occupied that position at the National Assembly and has touched many lives through empowerment and jobs creation.

It is interesting to know that Toke Bensonhas not won any election, not even Party Primaries, compared to Faleke whose political structures cut across Lagos State.

2019: Kogi PDP denies Sen. Attai Aidoko automatic ticket

Published

on

All is not going well concerning the bid by the lawmaker representing Kogi East Senatorial District of Kogi State, Senator Attai Aidoko, to return to the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as his ambition suffered another set-back.

This is consequent upon the Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party leaders’ refusal to grant him automatic ticket to vie for the position this time at the 2019 general elections.

This newspaper learnt last week that Aidoko was told by leaders of the Party that unlike Senator Dino Melaye, his desire for an automatic ticket was an impossible task for a number of reasons including the fact that the understanding for the automatic ticket was made with the rAPC members for which he’s not one. Secondly, having been in the National Assembly for 16 years, it was assumed that his popularity would make it easy for him to win the primaries election if he has done well for his constituency.

This latest development has forced the senator to adopt unusual means in a last-ditch effort to return to the National Assembly, apparently against the wishes of Kogi East people.

Senator Aidoko who was full of confidence that he would clinch the party ticket, was naturally deflated by this development. He has therefore taken to regular visits to Senator Dino with the hope that the latter’s goodwill and Saraki connection may fetch him the ticket at the primaries billed to take place on October 1, 2018.

Aidoko is also allegedly making a lot of underground maneuvers to tinker with the list of the recently concluded ad hoc delegates’ lists.

It would be recalled that the youths in Kogi East Senatorial District recently called on Senator Aidoko to halt his re-election bid as the zone was not ready for his return to represent them.

The youths under the aegis (Kogi Youths Arise Network) led by its coordinator, Mr. Mohammed Misah had condemned those they referred to as social media propagandists, who they said spin lies and launder the image of Aidoko for political makeover for 2019.

The youths said: “We don’t know what we want, where we are coming from and where we are headed.

“The Igala youths of today have failed to differentiate between their political enemies and political saviours.”

The youths had said that it was under Aidoko’s watch that Ibaji oil wells were ceded to Anambra State.

“Senator Aidoko has provided poor representation, starting from his days in the House of Representatives, where he represented Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2011, and served as Chairman, House Committee on Federal Capital Territory and later as Chairman, Senate Committee on SEGS.

“As a senator, he can’t point at one single thing as achievement that we can call his constituency project.

“He is only after his personal interest and that of his godfather, which is not good for our people in need of development.

“In fact, Aidoko is a liability on the good people of Kogi East and he has no political relevance in both the region and at the national level.”

The youths noted that Aidoko hails from Ugbamaka-Igah in Olamaboro Local Government Area and that as the chairman, Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, there is “no project that has come to our land.”
Aidoko, they explained, is not in any way familiar with the saying that “charity begins at home,” while stressing that his people have no water, electricity, telephone network, schools, bank and Automated Teller Machine in the entire Olamaboro and “of course, no proper health care system yet, we have someone at the Senate representing us.

“Aidoko that we know always visits Igalaland at night and sneaks out before the crack of dawn.

“We can’t continue to wallow in this politics of stagnation where some wicked few individuals will gather together to oppose everything that is good for our land.

“Our region has suffered so much neglect despite the facts that we have several opportunities to develop, but we have been suffering so much neglect because of the attitude of some of our leaders.
